What does having balance in your life mean to you, how are your mind and body connected?
We are all leading busy sometimes chaotic lives where we have to believe that relaxation
isn’t an indulgence but rather a necessity that we need in our lives.
Me Time is just as important to our well-being as healthy eating, exercising and getting a good night’s sleep
as each ‘time out’ will renew our energy and focus.
We are the experts at giving our children time out but
when was the last time you gave yourself a 'time out' some 'ME TIME'
For me, balance comes from choosing what makes me feel better about myself.
Although balance is a simple concept it is a lifelong process as we never actually become ‘balanced’ and then forget about it.
One of the first ways to achieve balance is to be aware of our own needs.
We can choose to ignore our internal dialogue and gut feelings but all too often the voice inside us just gets louder and louder causing unnecessary anxiety or stress which we try to ignore.
Once we learn to pay attention to our body we find that it is extremely good at letting us know what it needs.
Establishing good emotional health through techniques
such as exercise, meditation and mindfulness
will not only make you happier but will also make you healthier.
You may find the following exercise beneficial to create some calm in your mind.
Sit quietly for 10 minutes.
If your mind is racing, lie on your back on the floor and put a cushion under your knees.
As you begin to relax, ask yourself if there is anything your body is trying to tell you?
Make a mental note of any symptoms you are experiencing.
What underlying emotions do you associate with these feelings?
Don’t ignore any thoughts that pop into your head but do not overthink them.
Relax comes from the Latin word ‘relaxare’ which means ‘to loosen’ so relaxation is actually an active process.
With this in mind relaxation should therefore involve some form of action.
So, no matter how gentle it is, when we relax it needs to be used as a way of disengaging the minds grip on our body.
Here are some activities you may find useful

Into A Ta-Dah List
Here are some questions to ask yourself.
1. WHERE DO I WANT TO BE IN THE NEXT ONE, FIVE OR TEN YEARS?
2. IF i CONTINUE TO DO NOTHING WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY LIFE?
3. WHAT IS MY WHY?
4. DO I WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK?
Sometimes it is impossible to predict where our lives will be next week never mind predicting a year or even five years into the future but having plans in place is always a damn good place to start.
People who set goals are twice more likely to succeed than those without goals.
And more important, people who write down their goals are 10 times more likely to succeed.
Everybody knows the saying that if you carry on doing what you are doing you will get more of what you already have so asking WHY always helps you to identify why you are going after your dreams which will give you purpose.
The need to be accepted by others is a normal part of being human which explains why each of us feels the need to act the way others expect us to.
However, sometimes this need can become so great that it starts affecting our lives and very often can stop us from thinking for ourselves and making our own decisions.
At these times we are in danger of making decisions based on what other people consider to be right and is a major obstacle to moving towards and dreams and aspirations.
Asking yourself ‘ DO I WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK’? will help you determine if you are doing things because you think they are the right thing to do or because you are afraid of being judged.
Finally Ask Yourself
What would I do if I wasn’t afraid of anything?
What would be my biggest regret if I only had a week to live?
Remember, your future life is dependent on the things you do today.
If you want to live the life of your dreams you cannot spend your life today doing average things.
Take control and put yourself back in the driver’s seat.
